The Paralympics, the annual event which puts to the test some of the world’s best disabled athletes, have in the roster of their events the equestrian riding competition. Here, disabled equestrians ride their horses in events such as dressage, that of getting the horse to pace with a series of hard routines. Both the rider and the horse show off the fact that they understand each other so fully that one gracefully submits to the other’s leading, while in turn, one exercises the utmost gentleness and respect towards her companion. The competition matters less than the connection between horse and man; it is their special bond that is ultimately taken into account.
